Karnataka Politics: The politics of Karnataka are likely to witness significant transition as Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is reportedly set to resign and move to national politics through the Rajya Sabha. As per the reports, Siddaramaiah is likely to meet the party legislators on Thursday and offer his resignation. The reports also suggest that the Congress top brass has assured a larger national-level role for him in the 2029 Lok Sabha polls. The chief ministerial post is likely to be taken by current Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.
Earlier on Tuesday, the senior leaders of Congress, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge, leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, general secretary KC Venugopal, and Karnataka in charge Randeep Surjewala, held a seven-hour-long meeting with Siddaramaiah in Delhi. As per the reports, the high command urged the chief minister to move into national politics through the Rajya Sabha. The chief minister has sought some time before taking the final call, reported India Today, citing sources.

What Has Congress Promised?
As per the reports, Siddaramaiah was told that he is a major OBC face, and the Congress wanted him to play a key role beyond Karnataka. Congress, in recent years, has raised the issue of caste inequality and rights for the OBCs and the Dalits. The pitch potentially favoured the party in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls; however, the top brass is trying to boost the narrative in the upcoming polls.
However, the Congress leaders maintained that the meeting was held around discussions on the Rajya Sabha polls and Karnataka Legislative Council elections. While talking to the reporters, Venugopal asserted that the assumptions around the CM post were not true.
"Today’s discussion was only around Rajya Sabha polls and MLC elections. Whatever you speculated is not true," Venugopal told reporters. "We had a meeting. CM, DCM and Randeep were present. The entire discussion concentrated on Rajya Sabha and MLC seats today. Stop speculation," he added.
