Repolling is currently ongoing at 11 polling booths in the Inner Manipur Lok Sabha constituency following the Election Commission's declaration of Friday's voting as null and void due to incidents of violence, including gunfire and clashes. The chief electoral officer announced the repolling for April 22, citing the need to ensure fair and peaceful elections.
The affected polling stations where repolling is underway include Moirangkampu Sajeb and Thongam Leikai in Khurai constituency, four in Kshetrigao, one in Thongju in Imphal East district, and three in Uripok and one in Konthoujam in Imphal West district.

Friday's polling in Manipur witnessed several violent incidents, including gunfire, clashes, intimidation, and destruction of electronic voting machines (EVMs). The turnout for the two Lok Sabha constituencies - Inner Manipur and Outer Manipur - was recorded at 72 percent despite the disturbances.
Earlier, the Congress party demanded repolling in 47 polling stations, alleging booth capturing and election rigging. Manipur Congress president K Meghachandra lodged a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer, seeking repoll in 36 polling stations in the Inner Manipur constituency and 11 in the Outer Manipur constituency.
The Election Commission of India approved the re-polling at 11 polling stations across five assembly constituencies of the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency. The Commission invoked Sections 58(2) and 58A(2) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, declaring the poll taken on April 19, 2024, as void.
“The Election Commission of India has, under Sections 58(2) and 58A(2) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, directed that the poll taken on April 19, 2024 (Friday) in respect of 11 polling stations of IMPC to be void and appointed April 22, 2024 (Monday) as the date for taking fresh poll at the said polling stations with hours of poll from 7 am to 5 pm,” says office of the Chief Electoral Officer(CEO)Manipur in a press release on Saturday night.
The polling stations where re-polling is taking place include various locations such as Moirangkampu Sajeb Upper Primary School, S Ibobi Primary School, Bamon Kampu Upper Primary School, Pioneer Academy, Irilbung High School, National Children’s School, Iroishemba Upper Primary School, and Khaidem Primary School.
