Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister and senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia stepped out of Tihar Jail on Friday evening after spending 17 months behind bars. To mark his newfound freedom, he shared a heartfelt morning selfie on social media, enjoying a cup of tea with his wife. Reflecting on his release, Sisodia posted, “First morning tea of freedom... after 17 months.”

The Supreme Court on Friday granted bail to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia, in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy case. The bail was granted in both ED and CBI cases by a bench comprising Justices BR Gavai and KV Viswanathan, who overturned an earlier Delhi High Court order denying Sisodia's release.

While hearing Sisodia’s plea, the court observed his prolonged detention without trial as a violation of his right to a speedy trial.

Upon his release, Sisodia met with AAP leaders and received a grand welcome from party supporters. He also visited Kejriwal's residence to meet his family. The meeting was marked by emotional moments, with Sunita Kejriwal, the Chief Minister's wife, in tears. Sisodia also sought blessings from Kejriwal's parents.

Manish Sisodia was arrested on February 26, 2023, by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on charges related to irregularities in the Delhi excise policy. On March 9, 2023, he was further detained by the Enforcement Directorate on money laundering charges linked to the initial CBI investigation. Sisodia stepped down from his position in the Delhi cabinet on February 28, 2023.

"I feel indebted to Baba Saheb Ambedkar after this order. We have brought this legal battle to its logical end through the Constitution. I thank you all for being with me," Sisodia said after his release.

Manish Sisodia’s release is seen as a major development for AAP after the party suffered back-to-back setbacks including the arrest of national convenor and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal.
