The weather has begun to change ahead of the arrival of the monsoon in Madhya Pradesh. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted thunderstorms and rain in more than 31 districts of the state over the next 24 hours. Strong winds, reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour, are expected in many areas.

According to meteorologists, the southwest monsoon is advancing steadily and has reached Sikkim, along with the northeastern parts of the country.

Conditions remain favourable for the monsoon to advance into Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, and some other parts of Odisha over the next four to five days. Its impact is also visible on the weather in Madhya Pradesh.

Which 31 districts are on alert?

The weather department has issued a yellow alert for light to moderate rain accompanied by thundershowers and strong winds in these 31 districts: Narmadapuram, Betul, Harda, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Khargone, Barwani, Gwalior, Datia, Bhind, Rewa, Satna, Mauganj, Sidhi, Singrauli, Shahdol, Umaria, Dindori, Katni, Jabalpur, Narsinghpur, Chhindwara, Seoni, Mandla, Balaghat, Panna, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, Niwari, Maihar and Pandhurna.

The weather department has also advised people working in open spaces, farmers, and residents of rural areas to exercise special caution.

Weather experts suggest that an active cyclonic circulation around Uttar Pradesh and a trough extending from Punjab to Bihar are bringing moisture to various parts of the state, increasing pre-monsoon activity. Consequently, the weather will remain variable in the eastern, central, and southern districts.

Temperature to rise from tomorrow

Maximum temperatures are expected to rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next two days. After this, temperatures are expected to gradually decrease as rainfall activity increases.

The met department believes that if the current pace of monsoon continues, it may hit the state by next week, which will bring relief from the scorching heat.
