A 25-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a 22-year-old local near the washroom at Singrauli railway station in Singrauli district, Madhya Pradesh. According to a TOI report, she had to travel 300 km to Katni to lodge an FIR, as no woman officer was available at the Singrauli GRP.

The accused, identified as Devlal Saket, has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody. The incident took place past midnight on September 6 at Singrauli railway station, when the survivor’s husband briefly stepped away. Police said the couple, residents of Sonbhadra district in Uttar Pradesh, were on their way to their native village in Sidhi for the weekend and had arrived at Singrauli to catch a connecting train.

During this time, the accused allegedly confronted the woman near the washroom, assaulted her, and even disclosed his name, claiming he was untouchable. With no woman officer available at Katni to record her statement, GRP Jabalpur station in-charge Sanjeevani Rajput travelled to Katni on September 7 to complete the process and register the case. The investigation is ongoing.

In a separate incident, a 29-year-old woman allegedly strangled her three daughters before dying by suicide in Tikri town, Baghpat district, Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday night. Police said the woman, identified as Tej Kumari alias Maya, was reportedly upset over her husband not speaking to her and the children not being enrolled in a private school. 

The victims were identified as seven-year-old Gunjan, two-year-old Kitto, and five-month-old Meera. Gunjan, who had been living with her aunt in Muzaffarnagar, was brought home by her mother two days earlier ahead of her birthday on September 12.

According to officials, Tej Kumari was the second wife of Vikas Kumar, a bus driver based in Delhi, who occasionally visited home. On the night of the incident, Vikas found the house locked and alerted neighbors after receiving no response from inside. Police later discovered the three girls strangled on a bed and Tej Kumari hanging from a ceiling fan. Investigators said family discord appeared to be the cause of the tragedy, which has left the family in shock.
