Jagran Correspondent, Gaurabauram (Darbhanga): Just days after the nationwide outrage sparked by the Jamui molestation case in Bihar, a similar incident has emerged from Darbhanga. A female student was allegedly targeted in a forced kidnapping attempt on a motorcycle while on her way to take her half-yearly examination.
According to Jagran, the incident occurred near the Primary Health Center (PHC) in Kiratpur, under the jurisdiction of the Jamalpur police station. Station House Officer (SHO) Mukesh Kumar identified the adult accused as Raju Sada, a resident of Kiratpur village, alongside an unnamed juvenile accomplice. Sada has been remanded to judicial custody, while the juvenile was produced before an observation home.
What happened?
While the student was heading to school to take her examination, both accused forcibly seated her on their motorcycle and tried to speed away with her. When the girl began shouting for help, nearby locals rushed to the spot. Seeing the crowd approaching, the accused pushed the student off the moving bike and fled the scene. Police have seized the motorcycle used in the crime.
This comes days after a distressing incident went viral on the internet, which purportedly showed a boy and a girl being harassed by a group of people on a roadside in Jamui district on September 19. According to police, the two Class 10 students were returning from coaching classes when a group of youths stopped them and allegedly subjected them to inappropriate behavior.
Following the circulation of the video on social media involving an obscene act and harassment of a minor girl in Jamui district, Darbhanga SSP Jagunath Reddy Jalaraddi has issued strict directives. He emphasized that sharing the victim's video, outraging her dignity, or revealing her identity is an offense punishable by law.
The SSP urged the public not to share or forward such videos on any social media platform, including WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram. Anyone who has received the video should delete it immediately. An appeal was also made strictly against disclosing the minor's name, address, school, or family details publicly.
According to the police, even liking, commenting on, or forwarding such videos could bring individuals under legal prosecution. The SSP informed us that the Cyber Cell is actively monitoring social media platforms round the clock.
Citizens are urged to report any information regarding the dissemination of such videos to Emergency Helpline 112 or the Cyber Helpline 1930. Police clarified that stern legal action will be taken against those who violate regulations protecting the safety and identity confidentiality of minors.
