Chhattisgarh Gets Major Housing Push; 2 Lakh Houses Inaugurated, 3.65 Lakh More Approved

Union Rural Development and Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Friday performed the housewarming ceremony for two lakh newly constructed houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G). On the occasion, beneficiaries were symbolically handed over the keys to their new homes.

Chouhan also approved 3.65 lakh additional houses for Chhattisgarh under PMAY-G. The announcements were made during the state-level housewarming ceremony held in Sakti.

Chouhan announced the opening of a Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Sakti district and extended the deadline for the PMAY-G survey in the Bastar division to October 31, 2026.

More Than 1,600 PMAY-G Houses Completed Every Day

As stated by Chouhan, houses are being constructed rapidly under PMAY-G at a pace of about 1600 houses per day in Chhattisgarh. He informed that the Centre is making efforts toward transforming the lifestyle of poor families, farmers, women, and rural folk.

He added that coordinated efforts by the Centre and state government have accelerated development work in Chhattisgarh, with permanent housing, roads, drinking water, sanitation, healthcare and livelihood facilities being expanded in rural areas.

Permanent Housing Top Priority: CM Sai

Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai stated that providing permanent housing to poor families is a top priority for his government. He explained that the state government made its priorities clear by approving 18 lakh Prime Minister's Housing Schemes in its first cabinet meeting.

Over 11.5 lakh houses have been completed in the state in the last two and a half years.

He also highlighted the housing targets approved under the Housing Survey-2011 and Housing Plus Survey and urged the Union Rural Development Minister to approve houses for all remaining eligible families identified through the Housing Plus-Plus Survey.

The state government is working to ensure that no eligible poor family is left without a permanent home, Sai said.

Union Minister of State Tokhan Sahu, Deputy Chief Minister and Panchayat Minister Vijay Sharma were also present at the event.
