CJP Jantar Mantar Protest: Amid the Cockroach Janata Party's protest at Jantar Mantar, several key markets in Delhi, including Sadar Bazaar, Chandni Chowk, Chawri Bazaar, Connaught Place, Karol Bagh, Lajpat Rai Market, and Bhagirath Place, remained closed on Saturday. As per the reports, the traders of these markets are estimated to have suffered losses of around Rs 2,000 crore due to the large-scale demonstration against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.
Traders Suffer Huge Loss: Report
While providing details, the traders informed that around three to four lakh people come to these markets for shopping on a daily basis, reported Jagran. However, they could not visit the markets of the capital city due to the large-scale demonstrations at several sites, especially in the central region. The traders further stated that even the local residents did not visit these markets due to the traffic congestion and security concerns.
Apart from this, the operation at several key metro stations was cancelled by the DMRC on Saturday, leading to heavy traffic congestions. Along with these markets, other businesses, such as fuel pumps, hotels, restaurants, cinema halls, beauty parlors, and salons also got affected by the protest.
Security Concerns In Key Markets
Sanjeev Mehra, president of the Khan Market Traders Association, stated that the traders decided to close the market due to the security concerns. He further stated that Khan Market remains among the first markets affected due to such protests, reported Jagran.
He further stated that expenses like rents and salaries continue despite the closure of the shops. The trader further claimed that a single day's closure can result in a loss of Rs 1 to 1.5 lakh rupees per shop. The Cockroach Janata Party called protest in the capital city seeking resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar. The pressure group stated that the demonstration will continue until resignation of Kumar.
