As Southwest Monsoon begins withdrawing from parts of India, a dramatic split is visible over India’s skies. A latest image from ISRO’s INSAT-3DS weather satellite shows thick clouds covering large parts of eastern and southern India, while western and northwestern regions appear much clearer. This contrast indicates how different weather conditions are taking place across the country.

Thick Clouds Over East And South

In the image captured on Friday, the brightest and extensive cloud cover is seen over the Bay of Bengal and across eastern and northeastern India. Cloud bands are also visible over the southern peninsula and nearby parts of the sea covering states like Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Assam, Chhattisgarh.

These formations suggest that atmospheric conditions remain active in this region. Meanwhile, no cloud cover is seen over the northwestern part of the country including states like Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana.

Why Is Cloud Pattern Different?

The image comes as the southwest monsoon begins to withdraw from parts of the country. Earlier on September 19, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had confirmed that the monsoon had begun withdrawing from parts of Rajasthan. Apart from this, moist winds, low-pressure areas, and other disturbances also contribute to cloud development over a region.

What It Means For India’s Weather?

The cloud cover indicates that rainfall patterns may continue to differ across regions as the monsoon continues to withdraw from India. Some states like Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal are likely to experience intense rainfall over the coming days.
