The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has finalised rates for its first proposed parking facility, located under and along the flyover and elevated portions of the Delhi-Saharanpur Highway.
The parking fee will be levied for a minimum of two hours and on hurly rates thereafter. However, due to the absence of a daily pass system, parking for longer periods will be more expensive than municipal parking.
The monthly pass system for the said facility will be similar to that of the MCD, allowing parking during the day but not at night. According to the rules, any vehicles parked for over seven days will be turned over to the police.
NHAI's three parkings in Delhi
The NHAI has identified three locations to develop a parking facility for 1,000 vehicles around Delhi's famous readymade garment market, Gandhi Nagar Market, under the flyover and elevated portion of the Delhi-Saharanpur Highway, as well as on vacant land.
These include parking facilities under and alongside the elevated portion in front of Gandhi Nagar Market, Geeta Colony, and under the flyover near the East District Magistrate's office.
NHAI has entrusted its subsidiary, National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML), with the development of these parking lots.
Under the Design, Build, Operate, and Transfer (DBOT) policy, the NHLML has invited proposals from private agencies, which will be selected based on their proposals by next month. Meanwhile, NHAI has set parking fees.
FasTag payment, EV slots
The payment at these parking facilities will be made through FASTag. At the entry and exit points of the facilities, the MHLML will install automatic gates, with display boards indicating vacant and occupied spaces.
Among 1,000 spaces, 100 will be reserved for electric vehicles, as 10 per cent are reserved for them. NHAI officials said this initiative will encourage people to switch to green energy vehicles.
Vehicles not allowed in the parking lot
-Overcrowded tempos
-Auto-rickshaws
-Taxis
-Trucks
The parking operating agency will be barred from allocating even a single parking lane to any vehicle showroom owner for parking new vehicles.
