- Amit Shah to address opposition, potentially ending session deadlock.
- Rahul Gandhi insisted on all-party meeting for key bills.
- Government seeks detailed discussions before passing sensitive legislation.
Parliament Monsoon Session Update: The deadlock in parliament continued even on Thursday despite meetings between parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju and leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi. However, the tussle between the government and opposition parties is likely to end today as Home Minister Amit Shah has reportedly agreed to answer the opposition's questions. Rahul Gandhi has insisted on an all-party meeting on the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) and bills related to women's reservation and delimitation.
Meeting Between Rijiju And Rahul Gandhi
Earlier on Wednesday, during a high-profile meeting between Gandhi and Rijiju, the senior Congress leader reportedly sought time to consult with the allies. In a meeting of the INDIA bloc allies on Thursday, the opposition parties demanded an all-party meeting on the key bills. However, Rijiju clarified that barring Congress, the centre has already discussed the bills with the other opposition parties.
As per a senior union minister, the government is reluctant to pass them without discussion due to the sensitivity of the three bills; however, he added that Congress has not been cooperating. He further stated that the government is engaging with all the opposition parties to address their concerns.
What Govt Is Planning?
With only five working days remaining in the current monsoon session, it remains unclear whether the session shall be further extended. As per the sources, the government has already secured a two-thirds majority required to pass the ambitious bills. However, the centre is in favor of having detailed discussions with the opposition parties before passing these bills.
Apart from this, the speculations suggest that the government might introduce the delimitation bill in the Rajya Sabha, where it is easier for them to achieve the required numbers. As per the reports, the final decision on the bill will be taken on Friday.
The opposition parties have demanded clarification from Home Minister Shah regarding the alleged use of excessive force against the protesting students on July 20.
