Rabri Devi Bungalow Row: A political row over former chief minister Rabri Devi's government residence on 10 Circular Road erupted in Bihar after the RJD leader refused to vacate the bungalow despite the government order. Nandkishore Ram, the Minister of Dairy, Fisheries, and Animal Resources in the Samrat Chaudhary government, linked the issue with the Dalit identity.

Rabri's Bungalow Allotted To Minister Nand Kishore Ram

While speaking to reporters at a wedding hall in Ramnagar, West Champaran, on Saturday, he directly accused the Leader of the Opposition of caste discrimination. The minister said that since he comes from the Dalit community, Rabri Devi is not vacating the government bungalow allotted to him.

Ram said he had not been allotted any government accommodation in Patna since becoming a minister. Subsequently, as per state government rules, he was allotted the government bungalow at 10 Circular Road in Patna, currently occupied by Devi. Despite the government-issued allotment order, the former chief minister refused to vacate the residence.

The minister, who represents the Ramnagar Reserved (SC) Assembly constituency, became emotional and said, "I come from the lowest and most deprived (Dalit) section of society. When an ordinary Dalit person like me becomes a minister in the government and is allotted a house as per the rules, I'm prevented from moving in. My belonging to the Dalit community could be a major reason behind the former chief minister's refusal to vacate the house."

Evict Me By Force: Rabri Devi On Bungalow Row

Earlier in the day, Devi dared CM Samrat Choudhary to evict her "by force" from the government bungalow that she has been occupying for over a decade. The RJD leader blew a fuse when a couple of journalists asked her about an order of the building construction department that allotted the 10, Circular Road bungalow in Patna to Ram.

"Yes, I can see that Samrat Choudhary, who has become the chief minister only recently, is quite excited. Let him get me evicted by force. I am not going to vacate the premises", said the indignant wife of RJD president Lalu Prasad.

The former chief minister, who loves to keep reminding Choudhary that he began his career as a minister in her cabinet, spoke to media persons from inside her car and shoved aside their mics in a fit of rage. The family had been allotted the 10, Circular Road bungalow, a stone's throw from Raj Bhavan and the chief minister's residence, by the previous Nitish Kumar government. The bungalow, besides housing the RJD's proverbial first family, has for years served as the opposition party.
