Rajasthan Heatwave: The Meteorological Centre in Jaipur on Monday stated that a severe heatwave has begun in the state and is expected to continue for the upcoming few days. The weather department stated that while every district of the state is facing scorching heat, Barmer and Jaisalmer have emerged as the hottest regions. The weather department stated that these regions are expected to witness further rises in temperature, urging the residents to limit their outings.

While providing details, the weather department stated that the maximum temperature in Barmer was recorded at 45.6 degrees Celsius on Sunday, 6.8 degrees Celsius more than the seasonal average. It further stated that the recorded temperature in Barmer was maximum since 1998, when the maximum temperature touched 45.2 degrees Celsius on April 3.

IMD Jaipur Director RS Sharma stated that the nights in Barmer are also hotter than usual, adding that the minimum recorded temperature is also 6.4 degrees Celsius more than the usual temperature.

"Rajasthan recorded the highest-ever maximum temperature of 45.6 degrees Celsius (+6.8 degrees Celsius above normal) in the first week of April on Sunday at Barmer. Before this, 45.2 degrees Celsius was recorded on April 3, 1998, at Barmer in the first week of the month," Sharma was quoted as saying by IANS.

"The heat was not just intense during the day; nighttime temperatures also remained unusually high. The minimum temperature in Barmer was recorded at 28.8 degrees Celsius which is 6.4 degrees Celsius above average, making it the hottest night in the state," he added. The weather department on Monday issued a heatwave alert for 14 districts of the state.

It stated that residents of Kota, Jodhpur, Jaipur, Udaipur, and Bikaner will experience a heatwave from April 7 to April 9. However, it added that a new westerly disturbance will bring down the temperature with sporadic drizzling in parts of the state from April 11 to April 13.
