At least five people were killed and 11 others have been rescued so far after a building collapsed near Satya Niketan in southwest Delhi on Sunday, prompting a major search and rescue operation at the site. Delhi Police has initiated an investigation and an FIR has been registered against alleged owner Hariram and others. Police said the building was being used as a PG and renovation work on the ground floor may have caused the collapse.

According to Delhi Police, the building had a basement and five upper floors and was being used as paying guest (PG) accommodation. Repair work was reportedly underway in the basement when the structure collapsed.

Search and rescue operations remain underway as teams continue to look for anyone who may still be trapped under the debris.

The Delhi Fire Department received an alert about the collapse at around 1:30 pm near Shiv Mandir in the Satya Niketan area, police said. The locality is home to a large student population, with many students staying in PG accommodations due to its proximity to Delhi University's South Campus.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited the site on Sunday to assess the situation and oversee the ongoing search and rescue efforts.

- The MCD has ordered immediate sealing of illegal constructions exceeding four floors and vowed strict action, including dismissal, against officials responsible. The orders take effect immediately.

- CM Rekha Gupta ordered a Magisterial Inquiry into the Satya Niketan building collapse and an FIR against the building owner. She said those responsible for the incident would be held fully accountable and dealt with under the strictest provisions of law.

- An FIR has been registered against alleged owner Hariram and others over the Satya Niketan building collapse in Delhi. Police say the building was being used as a PG and renovation work on the ground floor may have caused the collapse.

- The death toll in the tragedy has risen to 5, according to a fresh update from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi. In a statement, the media cell of the premier medical institute said, "JPN Apex Trauma Centre (AIIMS) received 10 patients from the Satya Niketan building collapse. Four were brought dead, while one critically injured patient later succumbed. Three are admitted and undergoing treatment, one underwent limb surgery, and one with minor injuries was discharged after observation."

- Delhi Police detained ABVP members protesting at the MCD Civic Centre over the Satya Niketan building collapse. The protesters demanded the MCD Commissioner's resignation.

- An MCD Civic Centre security guard was injured during an ABVP protest over the Satya Niketan building collapse. He said he was hurt while trying to stop the protesters after police asked him to assist in preventing them from entering.

- Four people have died in the Satya Niketan building collapse, with police saying an FIR will be registered soon. A hunt is underway for the accused, with police conducting raids at multiple locations to apprehend them.

- Local residents alerted Blinkit, prompting the company to deploy two to three ambulances to the Satya Niketan collapse site. The ambulances are on standby to assist the injured, while rescue operations and surveillance remain ongoing.

- ABVP members protested outside Delhi’s MCD Civic Centre over the Satya Niketan building collapse, demanding the MCD Commissioner’s resignation.

- Delhi CM Rekha Gupta visited the AIIMS Trauma Centre to meet doctors and health officials and assess the condition of people rescued from the Satya Niketan building collapse.

- Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed distress over the building collapse at Satya Niketan in Delhi and condoled the deaths. He prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured and said authorities were carrying out rescue operations and assisting those affected by the incident.

- Delhi Police Additional DCP Abhimanyu Poswal said nine children have been rescued and taken to hospital, while three were declared brought dead. He said police received a PCR call about the building collapse around 1:30 pm, following which the SHO, NDRF, Fire Services, local administration and CATS ambulances were deployed. The rescue operation remains underway, while police are recording statements and ascertaining the building owner's details. An FIR is being registered and further legal action will follow.

- Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said 11 people have been rescued and that she was heading to the hospital to assess their condition. She said the building was old and renovation work, including excavation in the basement, was underway when a pillar shifted, causing the structure to collapse.

- Union Health Minister JP Nadda spoke with Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and reviewed the situation following the building collapse in Satya Niketan. He assured all possible support from the Health Ministry and directed the AIIMS Director and central government hospitals to provide all necessary medical assistance.

- Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday raised concerns over the lack of adequate hostel facilities following the building collapse at Satya Niketan in Delhi. He described the incident as extremely "heartbreaking and alarming".

"Students' lives were already filled with struggles—now the situation has turned life-threatening. Due to the lack of good hostels in colleges or universities, students are forced to live in PG accommodations, 40-40 at a time under one roof, in inhumane conditions," the Congress MP said on X

- Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday expressed distress over the building collapse incident at Satya Niketan in Delhi and assured medical aid for the injured. He said he was "deeply distressed" by the incident.

- Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra on Sunday assured strict action against officials and engineers if any negligence or lapse by any department is found in the investigation into the building accident at Satya Niketan, saying that the immediate priority is to rescue those trapped under the debris and provide them medical treatment.

- Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal described the collapse as "extremely tragic and alarming" and called on the government to "wake up from its slumber" and take comprehensive measures to ensure public safety.

"The incident of the building collapse in Satya Niketan, Delhi, is extremely tragic and alarming. I pray to God that the people trapped in the debris are rescued safely and quickly. Due to the government's negligence in Delhi, many such accidents have already occurred. The government must wake up from its slumber. There is a need to take large-scale action to ensure the safety of citizens."

- Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Atishi expressed grief and serious concern over the collapse, appealing for urgent relief efforts and demanding a high-level inquiry. Moreover, AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj hit out at the authorities over unchecked illegal construction and alleged corruption across departments.

- New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) Vice-Chairperson Kuljeet Singh Chahal pointed to possible unauthorised excavation work inside the building as a factor behind the collapse.

"...It appears that work was being done to open up a basement in the existing structure. It is a deeply unfortunate event. I spoke with the local MLA, Anil Sharma, who is currently at the site. The entire MCD team is engaged in rescue operations. The Delhi Government and the MCD are providing all necessary assistance. We pray to the Almighty for the safety of everyone trapped inside, and the government will ensure that the strictest possible action is taken against those found responsible," Chahal said.

- South Delhi BJP MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri announced that the government has constituted an inquiry committee to investigate the collapse and initiate strict action against those responsible.

"...The government has formed a committee. The committee will investigate the matter, and as soon as its report comes, the strictest possible action will be taken against whoever is found guilty. An FIR has been registered against the owner of the house, and perhaps he has also been arrested," Bidhuri stated.

- Two NDRF teams comprising 70 personnel and a canine squad have been deployed to look for signs of life. Oxygen cylinders were dropped under the rubble for those stuck to breathe, an NDRF officer said. Fire tenders have been stationed at the site.

- Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi arrived at the spot to monitor the relief work and appealed for all efforts to remain focused on the immediate rescue of the victims.

- Delhi Police launched a rescue operation has been launched at the site. The number of people trapped will be confirmed later.

- Locals claimed that there could be between 30 and 50 people in the building at the time. Authorities, however, gave no figure for those trapped.

- Locals revealed that the collection of water over days of rain in the basement had weakened the building''s foundation, leading to its eventual collapse.

- The Delhi Fire Brigade said it was informed about the incident around 1:30 pm. Accordingly, an SWT, a Big Fire Tender (BFT), an Officer-in-Charge, DO Mukesh Verma and STO Manoj were sent to the incident site.

- A building collapsed in south Delhi's Satya Niketan area on Sunday, with several feared trapped in the debris, officials said.The building collapsed near the Shiv Mandir at Satya Niketan in the Moti Bagh area.
