Satya Niketan Building Collapse: Arpit, a second-year student at Delhi University's Atma Ram Sanatan Dharm College, was among the seven students who died in the collapse of a PG building in Delhi's Satya Niketan region. While talking to the reporters, the victim's mother stated that she tried to stop him from travelling to Delhi due to fears. Arpit had visited his hometown in Madhya Pradesh to celebrate Raksha Bandhan and returned to attend classes from September 7.
'Tried To Stop Him From Travelling'
Arpit's mother, while talking to the reporters, stated that her daughter sneezed while they were waiting for the train at the railway station. She asked Arpit to cancel the journey due to the fears; however, he travelled as the classes were set to start the next week.
"At the railway station, his sister sneezed, which I considered an ominous sign, and I told him not to travel. But he insisted that his ticket was confirmed and that his classes were also about to start," Arpit's mother was quoted as saying by the news agency PTI.
Her last conversation with Arpit was around 12.30 pm on Sunday, hours before the building collapsed, leading to her son's death. His body was recovered after hours of effort by the rescue teams, sending a shockwave to the family members. Arpit's mother, upon listening to the news, collapsed and was rushed to the AIIMS hospital in Delhi for treatment.
Batchmate Remembers Arpit
Apart from this, Arpit's batchmate Sanskar also stated that they were about to attend the classes on Monday, adding that they had plans to go to a concert later this week.
"We were very close. He was one of the best people I had ever met. Both he and I arrived in Delhi on the same day. He was celebrating Rakshabandhan with his family. He had even told me that we would go to a concert at Delhi University," Sanskar told PTI.
At least seven students died in the tragic accident, with others feared to be trapped in the debris as the rescue operation continues. The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta have ordered a detailed probe into the matter.
