The Supreme Court on Monday said that a "fair and impartial probe" must be ensured in the Twisha Sharma death case which has sparked nationwide outrage. Twisha Sharma (33), a resident of Noida, was found hanging on the terrace of her matrimonial home in Bhopal on May 12, barely five months after marrying Samarth Singh, a Bhopal resident whom she had met through a dating app in 2024.
A bench consisting of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and Justice Vipul M Pancholi is hearing the case. The bench said they are "pained at how the issue has been handled".
The Supreme Court said it would ensure a fair, independent, and impartial CBI probe into the death of former model-turned-actor. "We believe in our system but we want an independent agency to probe the case," CJI Surya Kant said.
The top court also stated that it is against setting up of any narrative. "Why is Giribala Singh being questioned this way? She is a former district judge and it is unfortunate that it is being that the judiciary is derailing the trial. We are against the narrative. That is why CBI should take over the case," CJI Surya Kant said.
The Supreme Court also requested media not to record statements and use them to set a narrative.
"Go to the investigating authorities and give statements. We request the media not to record statements of witnesses and make it into sound bytes. This is an unfortunate incident," CJI Kant said.
The CJI added, "We believe some progress has been made in the case due to the media's involvement. But we should avoid creating any narrative."

Twisha Sharma Cremated In Bhopal
Twisha Sharma’s body was handed over to her family following the second post-mortem examination by a team of doctors from AIIMS Delhi on Sunday.
Twisha's family had refused to receive her body until a second autopsy was conducted. About 12 days after her death on May 12. Speaking to news agency PTI, advocate Ankur Pandey, who was present with a technical team at AIIMS Bhopal, said that the autopsy was completed by 3:30 PM.
Allegations Against Twisha's In-Laws
Twisha’s parents have alleged that she was subjected to various forms of abuse by her husband and in-laws over dowry demands. Her husband, Samarth Singh, and mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, a retired judge, have been named as accused in the case.
However, Giribala Singh alleged that Twisha was a psychiatric patient and a drug addict who showed withdrawal symptoms. She further stated Twisha's family had disowned her after pushing her into the glamour industry.
After 10 days on the run, Samrath Singh was arrested in Jabalpur on Friday. He was subsequently taken into custody and brought to Bhopal. A court sent him to police custody for seven days on Saturday.
