A Bhopal court has sent Twisha Sharma’s husband, Samarth Singh, to seven-day police custody as investigators intensify their probe into the actor-model’s death at her matrimonial home earlier this month. During questioning on Saturday, Samarth Singh reportedly told police that Twisha’s behaviour changed after her pregnancy was confirmed on April 17, rejecting allegations that his repeated questions regarding the unborn child’s father had mentally disturbed her.

Investigators also questioned him over frequent disputes between the couple during their five-month marriage. One such argument allegedly took place over a planned trip to Ajmer in Rajasthan, just hours before Twisha Sharma was found dead at her Bhopal residence on May 12.

Police sources said Samarth Singh was interrogated for nearly two hours after being brought to Bhopal from Jabalpur under tight security. Authorities have maintained that he did not voluntarily surrender, but was arrested from the Jabalpur court premises after remaining untraceable for several days following Twisha Sharma’s death.

Messages recovered from Twisha Sharma’s phone are now central to the investigation. In chats with her mother, she allegedly described tensions surrounding her pregnancy and spoke about an uncomfortable environment at her in-laws’ home. In one message, she wrote, “Mera dum ghut raha hai maa (I feel suffocated, maa).”

Her brother, Major Harshit Sharma of the Indian Army, claimed Twisha had called her mother around 10.05 pm on the night of her death. “During the conversation, she abruptly disconnected the call after her husband entered the room,” he said. “Repeated attempts were thereafter made by our family to contact her, Samarth, and her mother-in-law, but no one responded.” Hours later, the family was informed of her death by her mother-in-law, Giribala Singh.

During Friday’s court proceedings, police argued that custodial interrogation was necessary to reconstruct events leading up to the death, verify evidence and identify people who may have helped Samarth Singh while he was allegedly absconding. His anticipatory bail plea had earlier been rejected by the court.

Meanwhile, retired judge Giribala Singh, who has received pre-arrest bail in the case, has been accused by investigators of not cooperating with the probe and ignoring police notices.

Sharma's Second Post-mortem 

The case has also reached the higher judiciary. The Supreme Court has reportedly taken suo motu cognisance of the matter, while the Madhya Pradesh High Court directed a second post-mortem examination by a four-member AIIMS Delhi forensic team.

"We have complete faith in the team formed at AIIMS Delhi. We are optimistic because the Supreme Court has taken cognisance of the matter, we hope that things will move in the right direction," ANI quoted Twisha Sharma's sister-in-law, Dr Rashi Oberoi Sharma.
