In an unusual incident in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district, a family faked the death of their daughter after she disappeared hours before her wedding ceremony.  The incident took place when a 26-year-old bride-to-be escaped from her wedding along with a female friend from a beauty parlour. The woman, a homoeopathic doctor, left for the beauty parlour to prepare for her wedding.

After knowing about the escape, her family allegedly informed guests that she had suffered a fatal heart attack while taking her to Meerut for treatment, leading to the wedding's abrupt cancellation.

Upon investigating, police reviewed CCTV footage from the parlour, revealing that the woman had run away with her female companion. The duo was subsequently located and detained at a hotel in Gwalior the following day.

“We started our search from where she vanished. We checked the CCTV footage and saw the woman walking out along with another woman. We enquired again with the father and then he lodged an FIR,” Indian Express quoted Rupali Rao, DSP, New Mandi.

An FIR has been lodged under IPC Section 137 (kidnapping) based on a complaint filed by the bride's father. “We collected details from toll plazas and CCTV footage from many places. We also placed their mobile numbers on surveillance. We concluded that they were in Gwalior,” Rao added.

The two were then brought to Muzaffarnagar to record their statements in court, where the woman stated her unwillingness to get married and claimed that she was forcibly brought to Muzaffarnagar from Jhansi to get married. Police released her friend as the doctor claimed that she went with her of her own will.
