Uttarakhand Weather: Heavy rain wreaked havoc in parts of Uttarakhand on Wednesday. At least three people were killed and at least six injured after a house collapsed in Haridwar district due to rain showers. Cloudburst caused extensive damage in Tehri and Rudraprayag districts. A roadside restaurant and at least eight vehicles were washed away due to the overflowing of the stream in Ghansali of Tehri. The owner of the restaurant, his wife, and his son died as the restaurant was washed away.

A house collapsed due to heavy rain in Bharpur village near Roorkee in Haridwar district, killing three people and injuring more than half a dozen after they got buried under the debris, said police. The injured have been admitted to a hospital.

Uttarakhand Rains: Kanwariyas Truck Washed Away Due To Heavy Rain

The heavy rain for a few hours in Haridwar inundated the entire city. A truck of the Kanwariyas also got washed away in the Sukhi river in the Kharkhari area, due to the heavy downpour. There were no kanwariyas in the truck but it had rations and essential goods for their return journey, reported PTI citing police.

The Kanwariyas claimed that when they placed the vehicle there, nobody told them that the area might suddenly flood due to heavy rain. Speaking about the same, Kharkhari police post in-charge Sanjeet Kandhari said the truck was seen floating in the water. He said the vehicle would be retrieved when the rain stopped.

Uttarakhand Rain Disrupts Kedarnath Route

The Kedarnath walking route collapsed at many places in Rudraprayag. Due to this, pilgrims have been asked to stay at their halts. Due to the rising water level of the Mandakini river, the Taptkund area in Gaurikund and the parking in Sonprayag were evacuated. People have been shifted to safer places.

At nearly 9 PM, a cloudburst caused a landslide at two places between Lincholi and Bhimbali on the Kedarnath footpath. Due to this, the road collapsed in many places and two culverts were washed away. Electricity and communication services from Gaurikund to Kedarnath Dham also remained disrupted.

Uttarakhand Rains: Travellers Stranded On Gangotri National Highway

In Uttarkashi, debris and stones are falling from the hill near Netala and Bishanpur on the Gangotri National Highway. Due to this, the road remained closed for about two hours and 200 Kanwar pilgrims were stranded. A cloud burst late in the evening in Jakhanyali village of Bhilangana development block, 65 km from Tehri district headquarters. Due to this, the flood in Nautad Gadera engulfed the roadside restaurant in Nautad Tok.

Restaurant owner Bhanu Prasad (50), his wife Neelam Devi (45) and son Vipin (28) were buried under the debris. SDRF rescued all three, but by then Bhanu and Neelam had died. Vipin was injured. He also died while being taken to the hospital.

Electricity supply is disrupted in Uttarkashi due to broken poles. The roof of Mohabbat alias Kala's house collapsed in Bhauri Dera Shantarshah village in the Bahadarabad area of the Haridwar district. Aas Mohammad (10) resident of Bhauri Dera Shantarshah and Nagma (8) resident of Mustafabad Shantarshah died in the accident. Nine members of the family are injured.

According to Bikram Singh, Director of the Meteorological Center, a red alert has been issued for heavy to very heavy rainfall at some places in Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, and Champawat today. There is also a heavy alert in Dehradun, Pauri, Tehri, and Haridwar. All schools in Uttarakhand will also remain closed today in the wake of bad weather.
