North India has been experiencing extreme cold weather for the past several days, with no signs of relief. Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir are facing the brunt of the cold wave. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for multiple parts of these states, warning of low temperatures and poor visibility due to dense fog.
The minimum temperature in UP and Bihar is likely to drop further in the next two to three days, the meteorological department stated. Meanwhile, the cold weather has also affected train and flight operations in North India due to dense fog.
Bihar Weather Update
The state of Bihar, including its capital Patna, is expected to witness a sharp drop in temperature in the next two to three days, creating conditions for a cold wave. The minimum temperature of 27 cities including Patna declined on Tuesday with Sabour in Bhagalpur recording the lowest temperature at 8.0 degrees Celsius.
According to meteorologist Ashish Kumar, the widespread effect of westerly wind will be visible after two days, as the western disturbance will be active. This will cause a significant increase in the cold, especially in the southern parts of the state. The effect of fog will remain during this period, with very dense fog reported in Purnia.

UP Weather Update
Lucknow witnessed a drop in temperature on Tuesday due to light rain and cold winds. Meteorologist Muhammad Danish said that the temperature in more than 40 districts including the capital will fall further in the next two-three days. He added that there is no forecast of rain in Lucknow, but cloud movement will continue.
The cold temperature will remain still in some districts such as Amethi, Auraiya, Etah, Etawah, Farrukhabad, Fatehpur, Hamirpur, Hardoi, Jalaun, Kannauj, Kanpur, Kasganj, Mainpuri, Pratapgarh, Rae Bareli and Unnao.
Delhi Weather Update
Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of six degrees below normal on Tuesday. People shivered throughout the day as icy winds blew. The situation is expected to remain similar on Wednesday as Delhities shiver in cold temperatures.
Haryana Weather Update
The cold weather in Haryana shows no signs of decline, as the sky remained cloudy throughout the day on Tuesday. The maximum temperature in the district was 10.4 degrees Celsius. The weather department predicts that the cloudy conditions will continue till January 12.
The residents of Haryana are facing problems due to the dry cold. The weather department also forecasts that there will be fog and cloudy weather on Wednesday and deep fog on Thursday. The visibility and air quality are likely to be affected by the foggy conditions.

Jammu Kashmir Weather Update
Jammu and Kashmir is experiencing severe cold waves with Jammu being colder than Srinagar. A dense fog has disrupted road, rail and air traffic, causing delays and cancellations. On Tuesday, all the trains arriving at Jammu were late where Pooja Express was the most delayed by 11 hours.
The temperature in the state improved slightly due to the light sunshine that has been coming out for the last two days, but it is still not enough to provide relief.
