Former Karnataka Chief Minister and senior BJP leader BS Yediyurappa molested a minor girl and paid hush money to the victim and her mother in a bid to silence them, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) said on Friday in its charge sheet. Probe agency's serious charges came even as the Karnataka High Court stayed Yediyurappa's arrest by the CID for two more weeks.
According to the chargesheet, the incident took place when the victim and her mother visited Yediyurappa at his Dollar’s Colony residence in Bengaluru. The duo allegedly went there to seek the veteran BJP leader's help in a separate case of sexual assault, the chargesheet mentioned.
"Yediyurappa was holding the victim’s right wrist with his left hand while he spoke with the mother. He then called the minor inside a meeting room next to the hall, locked the door, and asked whether she remembered the face of the person who had sexually assaulted her earlier to which the victim replied twice stating that she did,” the chargesheet stated as quoted by India.com.
The octogenarian leader then asked her about the age at which she was allegedly molested, to which the victim replied six and a half years. Just after this discussion, Yediyurappa tried to sexually assault her, the chargesheet mentioned.
Yediyurappa and associates gave hush money to the victim and her mother
The frightened victim pushed Yediyurappa’s hand away, moved aside, and asked him to open the door. Yediyurappa then opened the door and left, slipping some cash from his pocket into the victim's hands. He also informed the victim’s mother that he couldn’t assist them with the case and handed her money as well before sending them off, according to the charge sheet.
After the incident surfaced on February 20 this year, when the victim’s mother posted a video on Facebook, the other accused—Arun, Rudresh, and Mariswamy—acting on Yediyurappa’s instructions, brought the mother and daughter to his home. There, Arun made sure the mother deleted the video from her Facebook account and phone, while Rudresh allegedly gave the victim Rs 2 lakh in cash to keep her silent, as stated in the CID chargesheet.
