Pune Landslide: At least 3 members of a family were killed after a massive landslide buried their home in Pune's Maval Tehsil, following incessant rainfall across the state. According to officials, the body of one person has been recovered, while a search is underway for two other persons. Three landslide incidents were reported from Pune's Patan village in the early hours of Monday, causing widespread destruction.
"The body of one person has been recovered from the debris, and the search is underway for the other two," an NDRF official said. Teams of NDRF, police and local groups were carrying out the rescue and search operations.
In another incident, 37 passengers were rescued from a stranded bus following severe waterlogging near the Ghorawadi railway station in Maval Tehsil.
The Pune landslide came as Maharashtra witnessed a strong morning spell of rain lashing several parts of the state amid the 'Red Alert' issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) today. Apart from Pune, heavy rains have also lashed Mumbai and its suburbs, causing severe waterlogging in several parts of the city.
Maharashtra Weather: Flights, Trains Disrupted After Landslides, Heavy Rains
The operations at Mumbai airport have also been disrupted, with at least 17 flights getting cancelled and 217 getting delayed on Monday. Train services on the Mumbai-Pune route also witnessed disruptions after heavy rains triggered landslides in the Karjat-Lonavala Bhor Ghat section.
The Central Railway also suspended local train services between Karjat and Khopoli in neighbouring Raigad district after heavy rains washed away the ballast. The Karjat-Khopoli section is part of Mumbai's suburban rail network and is used by thousands of commuters every day to travel to the metropolis for work.

Train services on the Karjat-Lonavala ghat section were also suspended following multiple landslides triggered by heavy rain. Local trains on the Western Railway network were running 15 to 20 minutes behind schedule due to waterlogging between Vasai Road and Virar stations in neighbouring Palghar district. Tracks were submerged at a few locations, including the Palghar and Virar-Vasai Road sections, slowing train movement.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) declared a holiday for all schools and colleges in Mumbai on Monday as a precautionary measure in view of the forecast of heavy rain. Meanwhile, Mumbai and its suburbs are expected to experience very heavy, continuous spells of rain, according to the forecast issued by the BMC.
Mumbai Rains: Six Die In Building Collapse
Six people were killed while several others sustained injuries after two to three multi-storey houses in a slum collapsed in the Mankhurd area of Mumbai on Sunday evening, following heavy rains throughout the day. The deceased include five children and one woman.
According to officials, two to three kutcha houses, including the ground floor, suddenly collapsed in Janta Nagar Chawl No. 5 near the Hanuman Temple in Mankhurd, trapping several residents under the debris. Soon after the incident was reported, teams from the NDRF, Mumbai Fire Brigade, local police and BMC reached the spot. A massive rescue operation was launched to rescue those trapped under the debris and shift them to nearby hospitals.
Maharashtra CM Holds High-Level Meet
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday chaired a key meeting at the Disaster Control Room in Mantralaya after heavy rains and landslides destroyed the state. Disaster relief minister Girish Mahajan and senior officers are in attendance for the meeting. After the meeting, CM Fadnavis said, "we are monitoring every single disaster incident closely."
"Mumbai will have high tide from 3 pm onwards today. If it rains heavily during the time of high tide, we will experience waterlogging. Fierce winds are expected post noon, which is likely to cross 60 to 70 km per hour. People from landslide-prone areas have been evacuated. Nashik is identified as the high alert zone for tomorrow. Schools and colleges will remain shut," he said.
