Maharashtra School Closed Tomorrow: Officials in several parts of Maharashtra have declared a holiday for schools on Tuesday, August 19, following continuous heavy rainfall and a red alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The order applies to schools across Thane, Bhiwandi and Palghar districts, civic officials confirmed.

The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) stated that the closure will cover all educational institutions, including pre-primary, primary, secondary and higher secondary schools. The decision applies to both government and private schools, regardless of management or medium of instruction. Officials said the directive was taken after reviewing warnings from the State Emergency Centre and the Regional Meteorological Centre in Colaba, Mumbai.

Maharashtra School Closed August 19: Bhiwandi School Holiday Tomorrow
In Bhiwandi, the Bhiwandi-Nizampur City Municipal Corporation issued a similar order, suspending classes across all schools for the day. Authorities said the step was necessary to safeguard students, given the risk of travel during heavy downpours.

Civic officials in Palghar also announced a school holiday, aligning with the precautionary measures in neighbouring districts.
Thane School Holiday Details
Teachers and staff in Thane have been asked to ensure that students attending afternoon classes on Monday return home safely. Instructions were also given to reschedule examinations, training sessions and other academic activities planned for August 18 and 19. Schools were directed to notify parents immediately about the holiday.
Maharashtra Weather Update
The IMD has placed several Maharashtra districts under varying alerts. A red alert is active for Mumbai, Raigad, Pune Ghat, Satara Ghat, Ratnagiri and Kolhapur Ghat. An orange alert has been issued for Palghar, Thane, Sindhudurg, Jalgaon, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Beed, Latur, Amravati, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli.
Civic authorities urged residents to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel and follow safety advisories during the heavy rainfall period.
