Masik Karthigai November 2025: The Karthigai Day is celebrated every month, but the most important Karthigai Day falls in the month of Karthika. Masik Karthigai November 2025: Significance

It is believed that when Goddess Durga fought against the demon Mahishasura, she observed the Masik Karthigai Vrat to get rid of the sin of Gauhatya as he was a buffalo demon. During her fast, Maa Durga offered sincere prayers to Lord Shiva. As a result, the Goddess was freed from all sins. According to another legend, Lord Shiva and Parvati united on Masik Karthigai to form the Ardhnarishwara form, and hence, this day is considered auspicious.

Masik Karthigai November 2025: Rituals

On the monthly Karthigai day, devotees clean their homes early in the morning and take a holy bath. The worshippers adorn the idol of Lord Murugan with garlands. Devotees light a lamp made of flour, ghee, and jaggery as they are considered highly auspicious. The puja of Masik Karthigai is performed by chanting the Subrahmanya Kavacham and Kanda Sashti Kavacham.

Devotees additionally offer incense sticks, sandalwood-turmeric paste, and vermillion to Lord Murugan. They also prepare various delicacies as offerings to the lord. Afterwards, an aarti is performed for Lord Subrahmanya. Many devotees also observe a fast on this day.

The fast begins at dawn and ends at dusk. Pujas are performed during both morning and evening. Rituals can be performed for six months, starting with the Tamil months of Aadi and Thai. It is said that observing monthly Karthigai fasts for 12 consecutive years bestows the devotees with the good fortune and blessings of Lord Subrahmanya. During the Karthigai Vrat, devotees follow complete abstinence from food and only consume fruits and milk.
