JE Technology Desk: Threads, a Twitter rival introduced by Meta recently, continues to grab headlines in the media for the lack of features and download records. While the app boasts features such as reply, repost, like, and share, the functionality to send Direct Messages (DMs) to friends and users on the app is missing. But this could debut soon (at least this is what a leaked document suggests).
Business Insider accessed this document, which compiled a list of upcoming (Coming Soon) features. The list includes 'Trends & Topics,' 'Messaging,' and 'Improved Search' as upcoming options. These future enhancements will be based on the requests made by creators via a feedback form about the platform. DMs were among the requested feature, which we can infer from this document. However, the addition could contradict an earlier statement by Instagram head Adam Mosseri about DMs.

At the time of filing, we do not know how the feature will function. Also, a defined timeline is not shared in the report. Meta's cross-app integration must be kept in mind when imagining a possible integration of this feature. On Instagram, the photo-sharing app, Meta allows accounts to message friends via Messenger.
In another update, Mosseri stated in the past that a 'Following' feed like Twitter on the Threads app is also 'on the list' of upcoming features. Plus, the option to edit posts and switch accounts will also debut on the app soon. The social media giant also introduced a beta program on Android to test out upcoming features before making them available in the stable release.
Users can join the text-based Twitter rival via the same Instagram ID and share text-based posts of up to 500 characters, images, links and videos (max 5 minutes). The app surpassed 150 million sign ups within the first week of launch. Threads is also the bone of contention between two top billionaires: Twitter owner Elon Musk and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
