AI has taken the tech world by storm since 2022. While the world has used it to supercharge daily activities, it is now barging into intimate relationships worldwide. A set of people such as Rosanna Ramos label Eren Kartal (AI's creation) as their perfect partner with no "baggage". Another is the case of Caryn AI, a Snapchat influencer turned into AI, which can be your virtual girlfriend on a per-minute basis in exchange for a dollar. And in the latest move, we have an AI companion creator.

To deepen your understanding of such instances, here are a few notable examples where AI replaced human relationships.

AI Girlfriend/Boyfriend Maker

A new project by VC firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) allows developers to custom-design their perfect AI partner. They can chat with the model using the browser or texts. "You can guide your companion towards your ideal use case with the backstory you write and the model you choose," the firm wrote on GitHub, which will act as their intimate mate and add a zesty turn to the conversation.

As per Decrypt, the company added new characters such as Evelyn, an "adventurous woman" who has toured the environments of a circus, aquarium and space station. Other options include ChatGPT-powered Alex, Sebastian (a posh writer), and space dog Corgi. If none suits you, a clean slate awaits you to shower your creative bugs.

The firm offers companions based on ChatGPT and Vicuna that are hosted on Replicate. We will have to see where things go once it is publicly available.

Influencers Create AI Avatar

According to the official page of caryn.ai, Caryn Marjorie is "the first influencer transformed into AI". This virtual girlfriend has a waitlist of 96 hours and slightly under 20,000 members logged in (at the time of filing). In a second case, Luwucifer AI, dubbed the first AI boyfriend generated $50,000 in its first week of release. In another case, Rosanna Ramos married Eren Kartal, his man of dreams crafted from technology which does not exist in the flesh.

So while these examples are gaining the limelight, it continues to be seen whether AI versions of life partners will forge a larger discourse and cement their claim as an envied substitute to an emotionally intelligent human. Until then, we will have humans taking care of these relationships and refining the artificial ones to catch up. But, in the process, the creators of this technology will (probably) end up smarter. After all, they are creators.
