Google could unveil a new subscription level under its Gemini AI plans, one that appeals to those who seek more than the bare bones of the free version—but not as high-end as the current Pro or Ultra ones. This new tier, perhaps named Google AI Lite, was unearthed in a teardown of the current beta release of the Google app, where a code mention suggested a "lite" incarnation of Gemini, code-named "robin" internally.

A Plan for Free and Pro?

According to a report by Android Authority, the AI Lite plan might be an intermediate ground for those who are not ready to subscribe to Google AI Pro or Ultra but want advanced AI tools and features. Although complete details are not known, the Lite version is expected to unlock some of the advanced features without charging the premium rates associated with Pro or Ultra.

Today, the Google AI Pro plan is offered for free for a month and then costs ₹1,950 per month. The pricier AI Ultra plan costs a whopping ₹12,200 for the first three months and then ₹24,500 per month. Depending on its positioning, the AI Lite plan might be priced less than ₹1,950, possibly providing a more affordable option for those using it casually.

What Would Google AI Lite Bring?

Though there is no official announcement yet on the precise advantages, the Lite plan could potentially be a watered-down version of the Pro plan. The Pro level already offers access to the Gemini 2.5 Pro large language model, Deep Research features, restricted use of Veo 3 Fast for video creation, and NotebookLM, which assists with summarisation, report generation, and deep research.

It also enables AI capabilities throughout Google Docs, Gmail, and other Workspace applications and offers 2TB of cloud storage on Drive, Photos, and Gmail. While it's uncertain how many of these features will translate to the Lite version, it will probably offer a subset that balances cost with functionality.

Still in the Works

It's worth noting that Google has not publicly announced the AI Lite plan. All indications to date have come from a beta app code and must be taken as preliminary hints rather than an announcement. Whether the plan comes to fruition—or when—is uncertain.
