Google Messages is among the widely used apps owning to its Rich Communication Services (RCS) functionality. Among other reasons for its popularity is that it is the default messaging app on a range of Android smartphones and offers an intuitive UI based on Google's signature design statement. And the company could also bring an editing feature like other social media apps like WhatsApp.

In the latest move to improve the user experience, the company may soon bring the option to edit messages, according to a report from TheSpAndroid. As per the report, the functionality to edit messages appeared after playing around with a few flags in the latest Google Messages beta update. The feature may show up after a long press on a message in the RCS chat.

It will likely be available via a pencil icon in the top action row. Once a user taps it, an "Edit message" section may show up within the space where you type messages. Users may tap the tick icon next to the text field to send the message. The report noted that the edited message may not reflect across all versions.

If the feature is disabled by a user, the subsequent changes may not show up in the desired manner. In AssembleDebug's case, the edited chats were reflected as a new message in the chat list for the ones who have not enabled the feature. However, Google will likely refine the functionality before release in the beta channel. According to the report, the feature may arrive in the beta channel by the end of February or March.

Plus, it noted that it will also allow the user to view the edit history of a message, as evident from the 'Original message:' string. The option to edit messages will likely be only available for 30 minutes after sending the message. On a related note, the company introduced seven new features for users.
