Recently Google Pixel 9a was released; just a few days back, the Pixel 9a sale dates were revealed. Now a new leak has surfaced that reveals some of the key specifications of Google Pixel 10-series camera details. The recent leaks have unveiled significant changes to the camera systems in Google's upcoming Pixel 10 series, highlighting both upgrades and downgrades across different models.

The camera setup of the Pixel 10 smartphone has changed the most compared to its predecessors. The most notable change is the addition of a telephoto lens on the base model which, until now, was missing from the series. Unfortunately, this change comes with the cost of the primary and ultra-wide-angle cameras being demoted to the level of the Pixel 9a specifications. As for the Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL, they still retain their configurations from last year; however, the 10 Pro Fold does get an upgrade in the form of a refined primary sensor.

Google Pixel 10-series Leaks

Android Authority has viewed the documents from Google that reveal big camera hardware changes that are coming to the Pixel 10 series. Starting with the Pixel 6 model, Google seems to have one strategy regarding the camera; the base models come with wide and ultrawide lenses, while the Pro model or models add on a telephoto camera.

Google Pixel 10 Leaks : Expected Camera Upgrades

Observing the report, it seems that the Google Pixel 10 will reportedly incorporate the 11 MP Samsung 3J1 sensor for its telephoto camera. While the details about the optical zoom capability are still under wraps, this sensor is the same as the one used in the telephoto camera of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Hence, it indicates that the Pixel 10 might add a periscopic telephoto configuration with a 5X optical zoom similar to the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

Also, Google seems to change both the main sensor and the ultra-wide one. The primary sensor will most likely be a 50MP Samsung GN8, which is the same as the one used in the recently released Pixel 9a. For the record, last year’s Pixel 9 came with a 50MP Samsung GNV sensor which was also found in the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL. On the other hand, the ultra-wide camera may suffer from downgrades, going from 48MP Sony IMX858 on the Pixel 9 to a lower 13MP Sony IMX712 variant, which is what was used in the Pixel 9a.

Google Pixel 10 Pro Leaks : Expected Camera Upgrades

No significant modifications of the camera hardware are anticipated for the Pro models of the Pixel 10. Report suggests that the camera systems of the Pro and Pro XL versions will remain the same. Still, there may be some enhancements for the foldable model. Speculations suggest that the foldable Pixel will feature a primary camera with a 50MP Samsung GN8, just like the configuration with the Pixel 9a.

In comparison, the currently available Pixel 9 Pro Fold is equipped with a 64MP Sony IMX787 sensor which is also the main camera of the Pixel 8a. Apart from the changes on the hardware, Google is planning to offer a new “wholly customized” ISP image signal processor with the newly designed next generation Tensor G5 chip. This change is likely to improve image processing, photo quality, and the camera performance overall.
