Instagram Gets AI Dubbing In Five More Indian Languages As Meta Boosts Creator Tools

Meta Platforms has rolled out a fresh wave of language-focused creator tools across Instagram, Facebook and the Edits app. Announced at the company’s “House of Instagram” event in Mumbai, the update adds Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Kannada and Tamil to Instagram’s AI-powered dubbing and translation system for Reels. The move signals a wider push toward local language creation at a time when regional content dominates online consumption in India.

AI Dubbing and Translation Take a Regional Turn

Until now, Instagram’s AI Dubbing tool supported English, Spanish, Hindi and Portuguese. With the addition of five more Indian languages, creators can adapt their Reels for audiences that primarily consume content in their native scripts.

The AI system translates audio, synchronises the translated output with the creator’s lip movements and uses AI voice cloning to retain the creator’s unique vocal identity across languages. To keep viewers informed, dubbed Reels will carry a “Translated with Meta AI” tag. Users can also disable translations or switch back to the original audio at any time.

New Fonts for Indian Scripts Coming to Edits App

Meta is also refreshing the Edits app with new fonts that support key Indian writing systems, including Devanagari and Bengali-Assamese. The rollout, arriving first on Android, will allow creators to design captions and visual elements in scripts that match the cultural tone of their content. The app already offers more than 50 fonts, and Meta will localise the font list based on the device’s language settings.

A push towards native language creation

The growing appetite for regional content is guiding Meta's expansion strategy in India. AI dubbing, translation, and script-based styling go a long way toward fulfilling the company's ambition of making content more inclusive across linguistic communities. These tools also help creators maintain identity consistency through voice cloning and lip-sync accuracy and offer a far more immersive alternative to subtitles.
