JE Technology Desk: iOS 17 was recently showcased at WWDC 2023 and made available to select testers. Since its release, new features in the OS have been making repeated headlines. The top ones include a new option to reset the forgotten passcode with the previous passcode and a Screen Distance feature. Here are more details and how to use these features.
Password Reset via Old Password
According to Macrumors, iOS 17 enables users to reset a new passcode via the previous passcode within 72 hours of the change. Once the user hits the "Forgot Passcode?" option, they will be moved to the "Try Passcode Reset" option. This will allow the user to create a new passcode after they enter the previous one.

However, if you wish to avoid using the feature, tap on the "Expire Previous Passcode Now" within the "Face ID & Passcode" menu in the Settings app.
Screen Distance Feature
The new iPhone and iPad operating systems also include a new Screen Distance feature to alert users when they hold the device "too close" to their eyes for a longer period, the media house reports. This can help reduce the risk of nearsightedness and inculcate suitable viewing habits to minimise eye strain.
It uses the TrueDepth Camera to calculate the distance between the user and the iPhone/iPad. Once a user holds the gadget closer than 12 inches from their vision for a long duration, a full-screen prompt that reads "iPhone is Too Close" will appear. After moving the device at a distance, the user can tap "Continue" to use the smartphone.
To turn on the feature, you can head to the 'Screen Time' option in the Settings app.
iOS 17/iPadOS 17 Eligible Devices
iOS 17 will roll out to iPhone XS and newer devices later this year. iPadOS 17 will be available on 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models launched in 2018 or later. A user can also experience this software through an Apple developer account.
Meanwhile, speaking of WWDC 2023, the mega event also introduced the world to the highly-anticipated Vision Pro, 15-inch MacBook Air, Mac Studio and other Mac machines. Besides hardware, the company also showcased new iPad OS, watchOS and more.
