Samsung will reportedly brainstorm on the question of when to begin the production of its highly-anticipated Galaxy Ring next month. According to The Elec, the project is in the "concretisation" stages, and once the question is addressed, the product may materialise soon.
According to the report, even if the company solves the production roadblock next month, it may still debut next year after all the medical clearances like its Galaxy Watch. This accessory from the South Korean giant will be a health-tracking device worn like a traditional ring that will transfer data to the smartphone app for detailed insights.
Discussions are reportedly in the "preliminary stages" to brainstorm on a prototype with domestic and foreign manufacturers. In subsequent stages, the performance and material thickness will be determined and shared with Roh Tae-moon (president of Samsung's MX division) next month.
As per The Elec, it could take around seven to eight months to develop the product and about 12 months to receive medical clearance. Hence, in any case, we cannot expect the product to debut this year. On the other hand, if the tech giant plans to launch it as a 'wellness' product without medical approvals, it might reach the markets as early as next year.
The Galaxy Ring will likely have more precision than the Galaxy Watch due to the snugly fit in the fingers of the wearer. However, it might not deliver accurate blood-related readings due to the weak blood flow at the site where it is worn.
While we do not have a concrete timeline yet, we can wildly speculate that the Galaxy Ring may debut at the second Unpacked event of 2024 or the first Unpacked of 2025, which will likely happen in July/August next year or January/February 2025.
Speaking of the smart ring landscape in India, tech players like Pi Ring, BoAt (Smart Ring) and Noise (Luna Ring) were unveiled in India recently. Pi Ring is already available for purchase in India.
