The Samsung Galaxy S26 Series is only a few months away. Rumours suggest there will be updates concerning the camera features, specifically for the Ultra and Edge Plus variants. Expected to be released in early 2026, the Ultra model of the phone is anticipated to come with a larger 200MP main sensor, while the Plus and Edge versions may have an upgraded 50MP ultrawide lens.
Galaxy S26 Camera Upgrades: What We Know So Far
WinFuture.de released an updated report detailing the lower bound increase of the Ultra model and the features to expect in the rest of the models.
Key details:
The Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to feature:
- A 200MP Sony CMOS sensor primarily marked out for photography and a 1/1.1 inch size, making it much larger than the 1/1.3 sensors of the S25 Ultra.
- A 5x optical zoom 50MP telephoto lens.
- An as-of-yet unnamed ultrawide sensor.
Galaxy S26+ or Galaxy S26 Edge (depending on final branding) could receive a 50MP Ultra Wide lens. This change would be a massive upgrade from the 12MP ultrawide sensor in the Galaxy S25+ and S25 Edge.
The fact that Samsung is updating their camera makes it seem like they intend to balance the features of the Ultra version with its rivals in lower-tier models, at least as far as ultrawide photography is concerned.

Codenames Hint at a ‘Next Paradigm’ Shift
The Galaxy S26 devices are reportedly internally labelled as:
- NPA1 – Galaxy S26
- NPA2 – Galaxy S26+ or Galaxy S26 Edge (depending on final name)
- NPA3 – Galaxy S26 Ultra
“NPA” here stands for Next Paradigm, which follows “PA” (for Paradigm) used in the S25 iteration. The emphasis Samsung is working under suggests that they intend to overhaul or reimagine the S-series backbone this generation.
What’s Next?
While these reports are exciting, they are rumours. Samsung has yet to confirm anything, and with the early 2026 launch window, plans can be modified freely. Nonetheless, the multiple leaks centred around the sensors indicate that the S26 Series is poised to deliver the most substantial photographic upgrade from Samsung in years.
