Samsung's latest fold offerings, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series smartphones, might be showcased officially next month, and details of the said devices have started coming out through leaks and rumours online. This time the devices in the said series could include the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, which might still sport a design that is familiar to its predecessor, the Z Fold 7, and as far as the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 is concerned, it might get a bigger inner display this time. Leaks and rumours suggest that Samsung's latest standard fold model this time might become the lightest foldable on the market currently.
Lightest Foldable on the Market?
A tipster by the name of Lanzuk claimed in a post on Naver (Korean) that the latest Galaxy Z Fold 8 might come with a lightweight profile. The tipster also cited people who are reportedly familiar with the device, and their hands-on experience suggests that the weight is quite "unbelievable". This lightweight feature could become one of the main selling points for this device. What the exact weight of the device would be is not mentioned yet, but these latest rumours suggest it could be 201g.
If the weight that has been said above is true, it would be so much lighter than the previous Galaxy foldable, which is 215g. Even now the current Galaxy Z Fold 7 is considered to be one of the lightest foldables in the industry, but if the rumours are right, this could be a turning point. The leak suggests the foldable will have a less visible crease and better overall display quality. Samsung is also said to be using a thicker layer of ultra-thin glass (UTG), which could improve both durability and the appearance of the crease.
The tipster also shared an updated launch timeline, claiming pre-reservations for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra will begin on August 4, while sales are expected to start on August 7.
That said, this differs from earlier rumours, which suggest Samsung could unveil its next-generation foldables at a Galaxy Unpacked event in London on July 22. Alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, the company is also expected to introduce the Galaxy Z Flip 8 and the Galaxy Watch 9 series.
On the specifications front, both foldables are rumoured to be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. The standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 is also tipped to feature a dual rear camera setup with two 50-megapixel sensors, while a 4,800mAh battery with support for 45W wired fast charging is expected to keep the device powered.
