Truecaller Introduces Family Protection Feature For Better Scam Protection

Truecaller is getting a feature to help users report malicious links and integrated third-party apps in the inbox. Known as Family Protection, the feature permits users to set up a trusted group and apply call blocking and protection settings in unison. The company says the thinking is to help less tech-savvy users keep safe while someone more comfortable with technology manages the controls.

The feature is a native part of the Truecaller app, so there’s nothing separate users need to download to begin using it.

What Is Truecaller Family Protection?

Family Protection allows users to add up to five members, such as family members, friends or co-workers. The entire group can take advantage of the protection tools together, including spam filters and call blocking.

One person in the group is designated as the Family Admin. This admin can:

- Set overall protection levels

- Manage shared blocklists

- Decide how scam and spam calls are handled

- Help other members deal with suspicious calls

Truecaller says this setup is designed for households where not everyone understands how spam-blocking tools work but still needs strong protection.

Extra Controls on Android

On Android devices, Family Protection unlocks additional admin-level features. The Family Admin can receive real-time alerts when a group member receives a potential scam call and can even end the call remotely.

Admins can also see basic live indicators such as battery level, phone activity, and availability. These tools are positioned as a way to step in quickly if something suspicious happens, especially for elderly users.

Family Premium Subscription

Truecaller is also offering a Premium Family plan alongside the feature. Subscribers get access to:

- Advanced spam blocking

- Automatic rejection of high-risk numbers

- An ad-free experience

- Additional premium protection tools

According to the company, the feature is part of its push toward deeper engagement and subscription growth.

Availability Timeline

Family Protection is now available in Chile, Kenya, Malaysia and Sweden. Truecaller has announced that the feature will reach other markets – like India – in 2026.

Once available, it’s expected to make shared scam protection far simpler, especially for families managing multiple devices and users.
