WhatsApp is reportedly developing a new passkey feature for account verification on its Android beta version. This feature aims to provide users with a more secure and user-friendly method of signing in.
According to WABetaInfo, the upcoming passkey feature will introduce an innovative way to verify users' identities. A passkey is a short string of numbers or letters that serves as a security code, allowing only authorised devices to access an account.

How Are WhatsApp Passkeys More Secured?
To increase security, this passkey will use biometric authentication methods such as fingerprint recognition, facial recognition, or screen lock. The passkey feature will add an extra layer of security by incorporating these advanced authentication methods, outperforming the security levels provided by traditional PINs.
When Will WhatsApp Passkeys Roll Out?
The passkey feature, which is still in the development stage, is anticipated to be added in a future WhatsApp Android app update. This action demonstrates the platform's dedication to consistently improving user security and privacy.
This week, WhatsApp also added a group chat admin review feature to the Android beta version. Through this feature, users of a group chat can report messages to the administrators of the group, enabling effective monitoring even when the administrators are not actively participating.
WhatsApp Other Security Features
The messaging giant has also been actively releasing several security tools meant to protect users from potential dangers. A previous update from WhatsApp introduced a new feature using which the company aims to protect users from messages sent by unknown phone numbers
WhatsApp has also introduced the 'link with phone number' feature on its Android beta version as part of its ongoing efforts to connect its web and mobile platforms. This feature simplifies the process of using a user's phone number to link their WhatsApp account to the WhatsApp Web interface.
