WhatsApp, a Meta-owned messaging application, regularly tests new features across platforms ranging from Android to iOS. In the latest beta version, the company is introducing a redesigned preview feature in the 'Updates' tab for WhatsApp Status. According to WABetaInfo, the feature is rolling out in the beta "2.24.14.2" version. The feature is available for testers and stable users may get the feature in an upcoming version.
As per the report, this update comes after the company started testing a fresh interface for the status updates for people who follow channels on the platform. For people who do not follow channels, a similar preview on the right of the status within the "Recent updates" tab may be available next to the contact's status.
This small thumbnail can help beta testers get a preview without opening the status. For context, WhatsApp has a horizontal status layout for those who follow channels on the platform and a vertical list for users who do not follow any channels. Both will get a redesigned thumbnail, with a vertical layout having a smaller window for WhatsApp status previews.

In previous versions, the circular preview replaced the profile photo of contacts to let users preview a status. With the profile photo on the left and the status on the right, the feature can ease the identification of the contact who has uploaded a status. As per the report, channels will continue to appear at the bottom. The enhancement can help make the status updates tab more intuitive.

As for other beta updates, the Meta app was testing an in-app dialer to help users make calls from the app itself without saving a contact. The floating dialer icon will be available within the 'Calls' tab. Users can dial calls, save the number to their phonebook or start chatting from the dialer UI. You can read more on this here.
