WhatsApp is working on a new way to chat and is going to make it easy for people to chat who don’t have a WhatsApp account. They are developing a “Guest Chats” feature that allows non-users to experience WhatsApp without any signup, as reported by WABetaInfo.

For now, the latest beta build of WhatsApp for Android (v2.25.22.13) gets this feature. Moreover, as this feature is still in internal testing, it is not available to all. Below, we will be discussing in detail the Guest Chats feature of WhatsApp.

What Are Guest Chats on WhatsApp?

Guest Chats are private discussions that users can start with the help of an invitation link. Here are the unique features:

  • The recipient is not required to have a WhatsApp account.
  • No app download is needed.
  • The chat is launched in a secure web-based browser interface (similar to WhatsApp Web).
  • Still adheres to the required end-to-end encryption.

These are not the chat functions required by law from the EU. To provide a smooth and user-friendly experience, Guest chats will still be controlled by WhatsApp, giving it more control over the functions.

Limitations and Offerings of Guest Chats

Guest Chats have undeniable practicality, however, they will not support all of WhatsApp’s features. Here’s what remains accessible and what’s absent:

  • Accessible
  • Chat privately and privately
  • Communicate securely through encryption
  • No login or account required
  • Absence (Yet)
  • Photos, videos, and GIFs sharing
  • Sending and receiving voice messages or video and audio calls
  • Private group chats

What Are Guest Chats?

Guest Chats could enable streamlined interaction with non-WhatsApp users for brief or one-off chats, thus expanding accessibility. This could also serve newer users as a gentle nudge into trying WhatsApp, as onboarding does not require a full sign-up.

It also serves as a plus for businesses or customer support, as they can securely communicate with users who lack registration with customer support.

When Will Guest Chats Launch

There has been no official news from WhatsAppp about when this feature will launch for the stable version users. Moreover, this feature is currently being tested internally. However, as per the current development stage, a public beta or stable release looks a few months away.

As this feature is set for debuting in the coming months, Guests Chats will enable the WhatsApp accounts to chat with anyone in without creating an account. Although the feature is just a basic texting, this looks to be a step towards universal accessibility without losing the end-to-end encryption or control.
