WhatsApp, an instant messaging app, continues to grab eyeballs for introducing new features in its beta channel. In a recent update on Android, the company is experimenting with a video calling feature via avatars, according to WABetaInfo. The Meta-owned app is also testing an option to auto-verify security code on Android devices for end-to-end encryption.
Let's understand each one of them in detail.

Avatar-Based Video Calling
In the '2.23.19.14' beta version for Android, the company is rolling out this feature for a select group of testers. This update allows users to mask their identity in place of an avatar while still joining in as a participant for video calls. Based on the screengrab shared by the news tracker, the feature 'Using your avatar on calls' dynamically replaces a person with an avatar during calls.

It adds a fun and personalised spin to calls and ensures privacy to some extent. Eligible testers can join a video call or host a call to check whether the avatar button is available on the calling screen. Meta also allows users to switch back to the normal mode whenever required. A user must agree to the terms and conditions to use the feature.
The avatar will actively change facial expressions to add a dynamic touch to chats and conversations. These interactions will be end-to-end encrypted, according to WABetaInfo. Enrolled testers can head to the Google Play Store to download the latest build and check whether it is rolling out for them.
Automatic Security Code Verification
In the latest update, the company is testing an option to auto-verify security code for end-to-end encryption. With the feature, the app will check if the message is end-to-end encrypted without user action via a process called 'Key Transparency'. An option for manual verification to check for a secure connection continues to be available on the app.
