Popular video streaming app YouTube is planning to make a minor change to the app interface. This includes swapping the "Library" tab at the bottom bar with "You." Discovered by 9To5Google, the company aims to replace the top profile menu and arrange it at the bottom. Plus, the company is reportedly also rolling out auto-downloads for podcasts in Music.

'Library' May Become 'You' On YouTube

According to the report, the new tab will sport the functions of the profile menu and the Library tab. With the change, YouTube will become distinct compared to other Google apps. But similar to apps such as Meta-owned Instagram. In the new UI, basic channel info appears at the top. Buttons to switch account, Google account, and turn on incognito are placed just below it.

Settings are accessible from the top right in the UI, which only appears in the 'You' tab. Below this is History and Playlists carousels. Other options, including Your videos, Downloads, Your clips, Your movies and more are tucked at the bottom and visible once users scroll through this page.

YouTube Music To Allow Auto-Downloading Podcast

Soon after announcing that Google Podcasts will shut down in 2024, Google is now adding the option to auto-download podcasts for its Music app. To enable the features, you can open any podcast and tap new settings icon to "Save/d to library." A new "Turn on auto-downloads" will download the recent episode.

9To5Google added that podcasts that users have finished listening to do not get auto-deleted. The platform speculates a previous episode is deleted once a new one drops or is downloaded. It may also get deleted after a set time duration. Further, auto-renewal settings remain missing. In the case of Google Podcasts, the "Remove completed episodes" and "Remove unfinished episodes" options are there.

Auto-downloads function on a show basis and a user needs to enable it manually. A dedicated page to toggle downloads is present in the "Library tab > Podcasts filter > Downloaded." It is available in YouTube Music 6.21 version on Android and iOS.
