YouTube, a popular video platform famous for its wide library of video content, is rolling out a higher-quality option in 1080p for Premium users on PC, according to The Verge. This option promises better quality with details in Full HD. For the unversed, the tech giant launched "enhanced bitrate" on iOS in April this year after brief testing.
Spokesperson Paul Pennington confirmed the development to the media house. The prompt appears in some of the videos on the platform, and once the user clicks on this option, a user is redirected to buy Premium. We even experienced it on Chrome browser on the web.
According to a YouTube blog, the 1080p enhanced will make the video "look extra crisp and clear". The difference will be significantly noticeable in content with rich details and motion. In fast-paced action videos, it will benefit sports viewers and gaming fans.
The report adds that the feature is also rolling to Chromecast and gaming consoles. According to the spokesperson, the option is yet to appear on Android devices. A user must note that the traditional '1080p' option would still be available for free users.

On a related note, the company recently increased its YouTube Premium pricing in the United States across its monthly and annual plans. As for more updates, the company was recently in the news for rolling out multiview feature to view four streams simultaneously.
Plus, AI-generated summarises to help users decide whether to engage with the video (or not) are also undergoing testing besides a new Collab tool, Q and A stickers in its Shorts vertical. Google is also experimenting with a lock screen feature and an easier fast-forward option in its Premium tier. Moreover, it was also reported that YouTube may also get a 'Playables' option that will let users play games using their browser.
