The Telangana government will launch the Indiramma housing scheme for the poor on March 11, providing Rs 5 lakh financial assistance to each beneficiary. The scheme will cover those who own a housing plot as well as those who do not. Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy announced the decision on Saturday after a review meeting with the officials.

The scheme is part of the government's six guarantees programme and is aimed at fulfilling the dream of owning a house for the homeless poor. CM Revanth Reddy directed the officials to finalise the guidelines and rules for the implementation and monitoring of the scheme. He also instructed them to give priority to the applicants who submitted their requests in the Praja Palana.

The Chief Minister warned the officials not to repeat the errors of the previous government in the construction of double-bedroom houses and to ensure that only those beneficiaries who are in need would benefit through the scheme. CM Reddy said that a tentative decision was taken to allot 3,500 houses to each constituency. He also suggested that different types of house models and designs be offered to those who are building a house in their own plot.
