Following the US Presidential election results, President Joe Biden has approved the use of US-supplied long-range missiles by Ukraine, allowing the country to strike deeper into Russian territory. This decision marks a significant shift in US policy, easing previous restrictions to prevent the conflict from escalating further. The move highlights growing US support for Ukraine in its ongoing fight against Russia, despite concerns over potential escalation, news agency AP reported citing officials.

The decision to provide Ukraine with the Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMs) enables them to strike deeper into Russian territory. This comes as thousands of North Korean troops have been reportedly deployed along Ukraine's northern border to assist Russia in regaining lost ground. Meanwhile, President-elect Donald Trump has voiced scepticism about continued US support for Ukraine, suggesting that he would work towards swiftly ending the war.

The weapons are expected to be deployed in retaliation for North Korea's decision to back Putin's invasion of Ukraine, according to one source, reported by AP.

US, South Korean, and Ukrainian officials report that nearly 12,000 North Korean soldiers have been deployed to Russia. According to intelligence from the US and South Korea, North Korea has also supplied Russia with large quantities of munitions to help replenish its depleting weapon stockpiles.

Zelenskyy, along with many of his Western allies, has been urging President Biden for months to lift the US restriction on allowing Ukraine to target deeper inside Russia with Western-supplied missiles. The allies argue that the ban has hindered Ukraine's ability to effectively counter Russian assaults on its cities and power infrastructure.
