Maine Mass Shooting: The State and local police on Thursday identified Robert R Card, 40, as a "person of interest" in the mass shooting that transpired in the United States town of Lewiston in Maine. Officials said that Robert Card should be "considered armed and dangerous". Police personnel in hundreds fanned out across the state of Maine hunting for Card who is wanted in connection with mass shootings at a bar and a bowling alley in the town of Lewiston. 

The death toll in the mass shootings increased to at least 22 with over 50 injured. 

"Law Enforcement is attempting to locate Robert Card 4/4/1983, as a person of interest regarding the mass shooting at Schemengees Bar and Sparetime Recreation this evening. The suspect, Card should be considered armed and dangerous. Please contact law enforcement if you are aware of his whereabouts," the police said.

At approximately 6.56 Wednesday evening, "a couple of shooting incidents" occurred in Maine with multiple casualties in Lewiston, Maine Department of Public Safety Commissioner Michael J Sauschuck said.

The police on Facebook released photographs of a bearded man in a brown hoodie and jeans at one of the crime scenes, holding what appeared to be a semi-automatic rifle in the firing position.

"We have literally hundreds of police officers working around the state of Maine to investigate this case to locate Mr. Card, who is a person of interest," Maine Public Safety Commissioner Mike Sauschuck told a news conference. 

Police also found a white SUV they believe Card drove to the town of Lisbon, about 7 miles (11 km) to the southeast, and Sauschuck said people were asked to remain indoors in both Lewiston and Lisbon. 

"Card was also reported to have been committed to mental health facility for two weeks during summer 2023 and subsequently released," a notice from the Maine Information & Analysis Center read. 

Meanwhile,  Kris Brown, president of Brady, a gun safety advocacy group said that Maine lacks several major types of gun safety laws, including assault weapons regulation, universal background checks. 

"A recreation center. A bowling alley. A neighborhood bar. Places Americans frequent and should feel safe, these are the crime scenes of multiple shootings tonight in Maine," Brown said.
