Akasa Air is set to launch new flights from Gorakhpur to major Indian cities, enhancing connectivity and travel options for passengers in eastern Uttar Pradesh. The airport authority has approved Akasa Air’s proposal, with services to Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bangalore scheduled to commence in June.
The announcement comes after SpiceJet ceased operations from Gorakhpur's Mahayogi Gorakhnath Airport to Delhi and Mumbai earlier in February 2024, leading to the relocation of its staff and office closure.
Currently, Gorakhpur is served by six aircraft from Indigo and Alliance Air, flying to Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Kolkata. The introduction of Akasa Air's flights is expected to fill the gap left by SpiceJet’s departure. The airline’s officials have already visited Gorakhpur to assess the facilities and identify a suitable location for their office.
The flight schedule has been released and Airport Director RK Parashar stated that ticket bookings are likely to open shortly. This announcement of new flight services is expected to improve air travel in Gorakhpur and neighboring cities.
