Following the resounding success of the Uttar Pradesh Trade Show 2025 in Greater Noida, the state government is launching a 'Swadeshi Mela' (indigenous fair) in every district of the state, starting from Thursday, October 9. This first-of-its-kind, large-scale event aims to provide a major pre-Diwali platform for small artisans, craftspeople, and entrepreneurs to display and sell their products.

The fair will run until October 18-19. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is scheduled to inaugurate the event in Gorakhpur on October 10, while Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak will launch the fair in Lucknow.

Vision And Objectives

In a press conference at Lok Bhavan on Wednesday, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Minister Rakesh Sachan announced the initiative. He stated, "For the first time, such a large-scale fair is being organised simultaneously across the entire state."

The minister emphasised that the fair is designed to promote the Prime Minister's 'Vocal for Local' mantra and is being held under the Atmanirbhar Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan (Self-Reliant India Mission). Building on the momentum from the UP International Trade Show, which featured over 2,200 artisan stalls, this new initiative will bring the focus to local talent in every district.

A Platform For Local Artisans And Entrepreneurs

The Swadeshi Melas will serve as a crucial marketplace for a wide range of local producers. Participants will include:

  • Artisans, craftspeople, and entrepreneurs.
  • Self-help groups.

Stalls representing various government departments and employment-oriented schemes, such as:

- Khadi and Village Industries

- Mati Kala Board (Earthen Art Board)

- Handloom and Textiles

- Sericulture

- Rural Livelihood Mission

- ODOP (One District One Product)

- Vishwakarma Shram Samman

At the district level, the melas will be inaugurated by the respective ministers in charge, Members of Parliament (MPs), Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs), and BJP district presidents.
