Ayodhya-Varansi Speed Corridor: Ayodhya is set to get another major connectivity boost with the proposed high-speed access-controlled corridor to Varanasi. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has invited tenders for appointing a consultant agency to prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the six-lane speed corridor.
NHAI Project Director Avneesh Siddharth said the selection of the consultant agency is underway to start the DPR process. The agency is expected to take at least one and a half years to complete the survey and prepare the report.
How Will Ayodhya-Varanasi Corridor Benefit People
Once built, the distance between Ayodhya and Varanasi will be reduced by about 50 km to around 200 km, allowing the journey in approximately two hours, compared to the current four to five hours. The reduction in time is expected to boost religious tourism.
Namami Gange (BJP) district coordinator Brijesh Tripathi said that a drone survey was conducted two years ago by the central government. Flags were placed in fields near Babupur and Vandanpur in the Mayabazar block for the survey.
What Is The Route Of Ayodhya-Varanasi Corridor
It will start from Rampur Halwara as the zero point. The direct link from Dasharath Samadhi will make travel from Varanasi to Ayodhya easier. Beyond Ambedkar Nagar, it will connect to Purvanchal and link Ayodhya with Prayagraj-Chitrakoot routes, improving connectivity between Kashi, Ayodhya and Chitrakoot.
When Will Corridor Be Completed
While NHAI has floated a tender to select a company for the Detailed Project Report (DPR), the corridor will take time to complete. Meanwhile, the 67-km Ayodhya ring road, costing around Rs 2,500 crore, is expected to be ready by 2027. The ring road will connect Ayodhya with Gonda and Basti districts, further improving regional connectivity.
