Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway Update: In a major update for the commuters, the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway is set to open for travelling from July this year. The expressway runs 63 kilometers to connect two important cities of Uttar Pradesh and has six lanes. One of the most important features of the LKE is that it is designed to be widened further up to 8 lanes as per future requirements, as per India TV report.

Once operational, the expressway will significantly reduce the travel time from the current 1.5-3 hours to 35-40 minutes.

It will start from Lucknow, connecting Bani, Kantha, Amarsas, and will end near Azad Marg, Kanpur. The foundation stone of the expressway was laid in March 2019. It was notified as the National Highway 6 in the Gazette of India in December 2020.

The expressway will serve as a crucial link for Lucknow Airport passengers.

Features of Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway

The expressway will have two elevated portions between Amausi and Bani.

The expressway will have three major bridges, 28 minor bridges, 6 flyovers, and 38 underpasses. Moreover, the expressway will have dedicated entry and exit points.

As of February 2025, 80 per cent of the construction work has been completed and the remaining 20 per cent is expected to be completed before July 2025.

The project costs Rs 4,700 crore and is being undertaken under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) model.

The authorities have set a speed limit for driving on the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway. As per reports, the speed limit on the expressway is 120 kmph.

As per the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), there will be five toll plazas on the expressway. To ensure a smooth and unrestricted ride, these plazas will be set up at the entry and exit points.

Five Toll Plaza

The toll plazas would be built at these five points:

-Near Miranpur Pinvat (soon after entering from Lucknow)

- At Khandedev

- Near Bani

- Close to Amarsas village (between Unnao and Lalganj)

- Near Azad Nagar
