Noida Dowry Case: Following the death of a woman who was brutally assaulted and allegedly set on fire by her husband and in-laws in Greater Noida’s Sirsa village, the police on Saturday said that their investigation will focus solely on the evidence directly related to the case. The 26-year-old woman, Nikki Bhati, was thrashed and set ablaze over a Rs 36 dowry demand on August 21.

Nikki’s sister, Kachan, who is married in the same family, filed a complaint in connection with the case. Following the complaint, police arrested Nikki’s husband, Vipin, her mother-in-law, father-in-law and brother-in-law.

“We are probing the cause of her death and a general diary is being maintained. Whatever is relevant to the probe will be recorded,” Sudheer Kumar, Additional Deputy Commissioner of police, Greater Noida, was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.

Earlier, the Greater Noida police informed that the 30-year-old Vipin Bhati was booked in 2024 for allegedly assaulting another woman. However, the offence was bailable, and a charge sheet has been submitted to the court.

Nikki’s sister Kanchan, in her complaint, alleged that their husband and in-laws assaulted them for dowry-related demands. According to Kanchan, Nikki’s family gave everything, including an SUV, a bike, cash, and gold, at the time of marriage to Vipin’s family. However, all of these could not satisfy their demands, and they set her ablaze over the dowry demand of Rs 36 lakh.

“We are working on it, and we do not want to divulge any details regarding the case,” Arvind Kumar, Assistant Commissioner of police, said.

During the investigation, police found out that a panchayat meeting took place in mid-April, where Nikki’s family and Vipin’s family reportedly reached certain ‘assurances’ to resolve the dispute between the couple. As a part of the agreement, Nikki and her sister were asked to sign an undertaking stating that they would stop creating social media reels, and in exchange, Vipin’s family assured that Vipin would not mistreat Nikki.
