Shamli-Gorakhpur Expressway Update: In a major update for the commuters, the construction on the much-awaited Shamli-Gorakhpur Expressway is likely to begin soon. The officials, while providing details, stated that the project has reached a crucial stage. They further stated that a ban has already been imposed on land transactions in several regions of Shamli district. Apart from this, the District Magistrate has also appointed a special Land Acquisition Officer (LAO) to initiate the process and address the objections raised by the owners. The expressway is set to significantly boost the connectivity in the state and provide convenience to the commuters by cutting the travel time and reducing traffic congestion.

While providing details, the officials stated that the expressway will connect Shamli district in western Uttar Pradesh to the Nepal border in the eastern region. They further stated that the estimated cost of this six-lane expressway is approximately Rs 35,000 crore, adding that the DPR for the project is already finished. The construction works will be carried out by the Roorkee unit of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

Shamli-Gorakhpur Expressway Route:

- The expressway will pass through Bijnor, Amroha, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, and Shamli in the western Uttar Pradesh

- In the central Uttar Pradesh, the expressway will pass through Budaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Sitapur, and Lucknow

- The expressway will pass through Bahraich, Balrampur, Siddharthnagar, Sant Kabir Nagar, and Gorakhpur in the eastern region.

- Apart from this, the expressway will also pass through other districts, including Rampur, Moradabad, Bareilly, and Sambhal.

The officials also stated that the expressway will also connect to the Ganga Expressway, Purvanchal Expressway, Lucknow-Gorakhpur Expressway, Ambala-Shamli Expressway, and Delhi-Dehradun Expressway. The authority is likely to release the construction schedule in the upcoming weeks.
